Worship at St Peter’s is enhanced by a traditional robed four-part choir. The choir, under its director Ian Westley and junior choir director Pam Asbury, sings a wide repertoire including music from the Tudor period to the present day.

The main choir practice is on Friday nights; the younger members from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and the main practice from 7.30pm onwards.

Music at St Peters

The choir sings at the 9.30am service each week, except for a break in the summer. These services include hymns and songs from Common Praise and elsewhere, settings of parts of the Common Worship liturgy, and an anthem during communion.

The 6.30pm service features a variety of choral music; again, except during the summer when the services are said.

On the first Sunday of the month, this is a service of Holy Communion according to Common Worship.

On the second, third and fourth Sundays it is a service of Sung Evensong according to the Book of Common Prayer. Roughly once a month this is a fully choral service with one or more anthems, a composed setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, and a composed setting of the responses. Other weeks still include an anthem but use a chanted Mag and Nunc and the Ferial responses.

Choral services are advertised on the Forthcoming Events page.

The choir also sings at special weekday services such as Maundy Thursday, and by request at weddings and funerals.
